My Valles Marineris Report

Notes:
  • It covers nearly ⅕ of Mars's circumference
  • Valles Marineris is 4000 kilometres long
  • The boundless Valles Marineris can be seen from Earth through a telescope as a dark scarring on the planet's surface.
  • Valles Marineris is a canyon that runs along the Martian surface east of the Tharsis region.
  • The canyon is the largest canyon in our solar system.
  • Valles Marineris on Mars dwarfs the Grand Canyon.
  • Valles Marineris was named after Mariner 9, the 1971 mission that discovered it.
  • It was a mystery how Valles Marineris was formed.
  • Another name for Valles Marineris is Mariner Valley.
Valles Marineris

Introduction
Valles Marineris is also known as Mariner Valley; it is the largest canyon in our solar system, it is located on Mars,
and it is well known that Valles Marineris is a large crack in the martian crust.
Body paragraph one
Valles Marineris is a system of canyons that spans 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers). At some points, the canyon is 125
miles (200 km) wide. Regions can reach depths of 6 miles (10 km). If the system were located on Earth, it would
stretch across the United States, from Los Angeles to the Atlantic coast, it also covers ⅕ of Mars surface.
Body paragraph two

Most scientists think that the formation of the Tharsis region may have helped the canyon to form. The Tharsis region
contains several large volcanoes that dwarf those found on Earth, including Olympus Mons, the largest volcano in the
solar system.

Body paragraph three

Valles Marineris and the Grand Canyon have got lots of similarities and differences. Comparing Valles Marineris and
the Grand Canyon together Valles Marineris is larger than the Grand canyon ( which is located in Arizona ).

Conclusion

There you have it I have told you some interesting facts about Valles Marineris and hopefully you have learnt something.
